Three questions to ask yourself when planning website content.

It can be challenging to supply a website designer like me with a list of pages you want me to build for a website project. That's my job, right? It can be if you use my "Sitemap creation support" service.

However, if you want to do it yourself, asking some poignant questions might be helpful when undertaking this task.

So, answer the three questions below and then create the list of website pages you believe you will need on your website. I have added notes and tips for each question to guide your thought process; click on the question title or ✚ to view them.

These questions might feel similar, and in a way, they are, but they are devised to boost thinking and bring about ideas regarding your website content.

  • You may want to publish articles and company news in a blog to educate your customers and prospects, demonstrate your expertise, build trust, and get search engines interested in your website. You may want to show case studies of your work to demonstrate your skills and abilities and convince prospects to hire you. You may want to add some products to your website to sell online.

From asking yourself this question, you may need to add some of the following pages to your list or other types of pages:

    • Blog page
    • Case Studies page
    • Products page

  • You will have to make an informed guess, and the answer to this question might be related to how you currently advertise and market your business. Still, an example might be to learn more about your company, how you work, your staff, and what services you offer.

From asking yourself this question, you may need to add some of the following pages to your list or other types of pages:

    • About page
    • Company Overview page
    • Staff Profiles page
    • Company Awards page

  • Asking this question will help you establish your website's primary purpose. Again the answer to this will depend significantly on the type of product or service you offer. But the question is designed to get you thinking about what you ultimately want to achieve with your website.

From asking yourself this question, you may need to add some of the following pages to your list or other types of pages:

    • Blog page
    • Services page
    • Case Studies page
    • About page
    • Products page
    • Contact page
    • Purchase page
    • Survey page
    • Directory page
    • Listing page
    • Membership page
    • Scheduling page
    • Booking page

I hope by answering these three key questions, you can form some clarity about the overall aims of your website and decide on some page titles you want to add to your list of website pages.
